The scientific journal "Litasfera" was founded in November 1994, which became a major event in the geology of Belarus: a scientific geological periodical appeared in the country. The Journal has come a long way in these 30 years.
The founder and first publisher of "Litasfera" was the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus (No. 1–20, 1994–2004; after renaming in 2004 – the Institute of Geochemistry and Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, No. 21–28, 2004–2008). Subsequently, as a result of the reorganization of the institute and its transfer to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, the Journal began to be published first by the Belarusian Research Geological Prospecting Institute (No. 29–38, 2008–2013), and then by the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Scientific and Production Center for Geology” (starting with No. 39, 2013 – present).
During its existence, the Journal has published more than 900 scientific articles (including research briefs), which cover a wide range of geological sciences and are devoted to various issues of stratigraphy and paleontology, geotectonics and geodynamics, general and regional geology, minerageny, geochemistry, geophysics, petrology and volcanology, lithology, hydrogeology, geoecology, engineering geology, history and methodology of science, mineralogy and crystallography, problems of education, popularization of science. In addition to scientific articles and research briefs, the Journal has published many other materials over 30 years, including reviews and chronicle of important events in geological science and practice, information about conferences, defended dissertations, memorable dates, etc.
